I just learned that my dear friend Ellen Jacobowitz died of a heart attack. I met Ellen on the Internet playing bridge. Her name there was pelimar. Ellen was born in Germany and fled the Nazis with her family to settle in Bolivia. In 2001 a group of women Yahoo bridge players decided to meet in NYC. We came from all over the US and Bolivia. Each year since then we have gathered in different places. One year it was South Beach in Miami. The four days there were followed by a 5-day cruise on the Caribbean. Ellen and I were roommates. I adored this woman for her charm, her warmth, her humanity. All who met her became her "family." We loved her and she will be sorely missed.

Thank you Kate. My mom talked warmly about the gatherings and about you specially. She enjoyed the online games so much. She was definetly the most influential person in my life and so she will be missed as a beautiful, caring and fun Mom.

Thanks for the kind words on behalf of Mom. She surely touched our lives and will continue to do so even in absence. She considered you a dear friend, and very much enjoyed playing her favorite game with you. She will definitely be missed.
Only today did I find out, and it came as a shock, that my dear friend, Elenita, has left us.
Her empathy had always filled me with awe. Her cheerful manner with a kind of "jealousy". She was a fighter and a giver of time and the sister I never had.
I wish I could reach her sons to let them now, that I will always carry their mother, in my heart.

Dear Kate, perhaps this is not the most appropriate place to post this question, but I was running a web-search to find my former classmate, Marcelo Jacobowitz, and I found your page. (I know for a fact that his mother passed away. I was told by other common friends still in Bolivia! A very unfortunate and terrible thing!I knew her too and she was indeed all those beautiful adjectives hereby posted!)
