New York City

Suffice it to say the weekend in New York was sublime. Friday night we headed to Broadway for dinner before the theatre. A charming Italian restaurant beckoned us where we ate sumptuously. We headed to the Broadhurst Theater to see "Mary Stuart" with Tony nominees Janet McTeer and Harriet Walter. Our tickets were in row 2 of the orchestra. Usually I prefer the mezzanine but for this play up close and personal turned out to be phenomenal. They were superb but I thought Harriet Walter triumphed in the role of Mary Queen of Scots. If you have the chance to see this play before it closes in June, do! Schiller wrote it in the 1800s and the eeriness of it's message remains true to this day.

We slept in a bit on Saturday before walking to our massages and facials. Since we had about an hour between appointments, we ambled a bit to find some lunch. On the edge of Chinatown we found delicious dim sum. Just the ticket! Back to the spa for facials then back to the hotel for a quick nap before heading to the Broadway Theatre to watch my cousin Brian star in Shrek, The Musical. The contrast to the prior evening is obvious however our enjoyment was as rich. Brian's personality and voice shown through the 3 1/2 hours of makeup he was wearing. A delightful, fun, funny experience! We topped off the evening with a visit to the View at the Marriott Marquis where we hit the dessert bar and toasted our friendship with drinks.

Sunday we trooped over to Seaport to enjoy the sunshine and a scrumptious brunch outdoors.

All in all a delightful couple of days for friends in New York City.

I am dying to get away...and can't. I guess I have to live through others.
