Working Out and Spinning

I live in a community which has many recreational areas: golf courses (de rigueur here), pools, weight rooms, clubs, etc. A nominal annual fee gains one entrance to all facilities with some small additional charges for some areas. At the beginning of 2008 I decided I needed a workout regimen, however the machine room at the largest rec center was intimidating and mostly men were working out. I remembered seeing tv ads for a women-only workout. Simultaneously I received a coupon from AARP to join this workout group. Since then I have been working out 3-4 times a week with women of all ages. I need not make an appointment; I just show up and start! My upper body strength has increased substantially and my stamina as well.

One of the perks I offer myself post-workout is a trip to Starbucks for a grande skinny latte. The cups usually have a quote from someone or other entitled "The Way I See It" that I rarely read, but today for some reason I did.

Childhood is a strange country. It's a place you come from or go to -- at least in your mind. For me it has an endless, spellbound something in it that feels remote. It's like a little sealed-vault country of cake breath and grass stains where what you do instead of work is spin until you're dizzy.

Excellent! That wasn't the spinning I had envisioned, but it sounds great!

Me either, Barbara, but could not find an image of a girl spinning round and round. Perhaps, though, you were thinking of a spinning wheel? lol
