Waterbones tagged me with this directive:

It's the "Nearest Book Meme."

> 1. Grab the book closest to you.

Well...........I had just finished David Baldacci's The Collector's the night before and went back to this book which I have been reading in between mysteries, so it was closest to me.

"Tommy Caplan and I were thrilled. We stayed up until Kennedy gave his victory speech, then went to bed; it was nearly three in the morning in Washington. A few hours later I was awakened by Tommy, who was shaking me and shouting, 'Bobby's been shot! Bobby's been shot!"

My Life by Bill Clinton.

Okay Barbara, Jonathan, and Jack.............tag: you're it!

A great idea! I'll post mine here, as I don't want to defile my anti-blog with anything interesting. This is from "The Fight for English: How Language Pundits Ate, Shot, and Left" by David Crystal, which I've been reading on the way to work on the tube.

"But I am just the latest in a long line of critics who have tried to stop the rot. Joseph Priestley, as we saw in Chapter 16, was one of the first. Thomas de Quincey, writing in 1839, was another."
