Last spring a new Japanese retaurant The Wasabi opened near my office. The concept:
1) food travels on a conveyor belt in front of customers seated at a bar-like table
2) customers choose dishes as they pass before them
3) dishes are color-coded as to price
4) waitresses collect the dishes and tote up your bill
Deliciously fresh food and extensive variety.
My son Jonathan and his friend Thorn are passing through DC after a weekend in Delaware and they joined me for lunch at Wasabi.
A delightful surprise for me and kudos for the restaurant. J & T reside in San Francisco and they said Wasabi brought the conveyor belt concept to a classier level than they had experienced in SF.
